Rock Solid Race 2013
One of the toughest events I have done, it took guts, fitness and strength…. It was cold, raining, hail & sunshine, it was a test of human spirit and I had the perfect team with Miranda Stober Nugent Paula Hughes Labdon Jackie Simmons & her husband, Roger, my amazing son Jason Spencer-Jones…. we could not have done without the men who pushed us, pulled us and threw as at 37 very tough obstacles…. we completed ALL of them, no time penalties and we didn’t hang around on the running either, we carried a log each for 1 km and a heavy sand bag for another1km where we had to negotiate bogs, a 10ft wall and then the lakes and an ICE BATH we had to put our heads under to get through!!!…. TEAM…. WE ARE AMAZING!!!!! also wethen had unisex changing and showers!!! noof us gave a stuff, we were exhausted and frozen to the core!!!!! All videoed by Lewis Clarke … so look at The Tivertonian website later tomorrow!!
In the 15 years I have ran the Grizzly, I don’t think I have been so c. c.. cold – yes, IT SNOWED!
Jason (my son) was amazing – in his first Grizzly he managed to complete the 20 mile course (full of bogs, mud, hills and more) in 5hrs 46mins. I managed to do the route which takes you around some scenic spots starting in Seaton and heading towards Branscombe in 4hrs 23 mins.
Over the course of the time we both met some amazing people, and bumped into some friends we hadn’t seen in years. Lewis Clarke came along to film, and you can see his video of us having fun in the cold below. Stacey Butler also provided us with some much needed support.
I ran with the wonderful Debbie Jones who had a very nasty fall indeed – hope it heals in time for the next run!. Well done to Suzi Arnold, and the Cub Run Ladies – Sally Greenslade, Michelle Perry and Nicky J White – see if you can spot yourself in the video.
Now I am home, I have cleaned all the kit including Jason’s and now it’s time for my roast dinner!
